A message from Richard Catlow, WELCOME to the Rochdale and Heywood Independent, a paper which will take a distinctive new look at the borough. We'll be coming out on the last week of every month and we're so easy to get hold of - at all major supermarkets and dozens of other outlets, from libraries to filling stations, shops to businesses. The Independent is a community newspaper serving the people of Rochdale, Heywood, Whitworth, Littleborough, Milnrow, Norden, Castleton, Bamford and surrounding areas. Every month we'll be bringing you the news; particularly - in this time of doom and gloom - positive achievements by local people. At a time of unprecedented change in the local media, the Independent will be a bright new voice compiled by people who really know and understand the area. I personally enjoyed working in Rochdale for many years, so coming back to the town with the Independent has been like a homecoming. In the past I've done many things from chairing local partnership committees to compiling local history publications and a video with John Cole, and devising the Rochdale Way walking route. I now look forward to working with local organisation, charities and societies to promote your events and campaigns. I'd love to hear your news and views and to share your photographs. You can get in touch with me by email at richardcatlow@pipmedia.co.uk or by calling 01706 216880. You can view sample pages from the latest issue of the
